Dr. Allan Horowitz, published newspaper article, Richmond Hill Liberal, Copyright September 30, 1987

DEAR READERS:

In last week’s column I answered a letter from a middle-aged man who had a chronic case of unexplained lower back pain. He was getting frustrated with his constant pain and his inability to lead a normal life free from his pain. He never thought that anything could be done for his type of pain, so he never investigated further. He finally wrote to me to ask where he should begin his search for a ‘cure.’ In last week’s column I began my answer, and today I will continue. Continue Reading

QUESTION: I have back pain and I’m sure you get a lot of letters like mine. I have never even given a thought about writing to you before because I always thought that whatever was wrong with my back was something I would have to learn to live with. Continue Reading

Dr. Allan Horowitz, published newspaper article, Richmond Hill Liberal, Copyright September 2, 1987

QUESTION: What type of footwear is best for my three children? They are boys, aged 12 and 14, and a girl, aged nine. They are all returning to school soon and I have been busy buying them clothes so they will look presentable. The only shoes that are offered in the stores are what I call ‘sneakers’. They don’t seem to look decent but my children tell me I am old fashioned and that all the children wear them. Continue Reading

She Disagreed With Answer

Dr. Allan Horowitz, published newspaper article, Richmond Hill Liberal, Copyright July 1, 1987

DEAR READERS:

A few weeks ago I answered a letter from a lady who was questioning the cause of her headaches and low back pain. She was six months pregnant and was interested in finding out what she could do to get some relief. I answered her by telling her clearly that I could not diagnose her headaches or back pain via the newspaper, and that she should consult her doctor to find the cause of her pain. I told her that many pregnant women feel low back pain and that there are several simple things that can be done to help relieve the pain. Exercises, using back supports, moist heat applications, rest, and so on all might help to varying degrees. Continue Reading

Dr. Allan Horowitz, published newspaper article, Richmond Hill Liberal, Copyright 1985-1991

Dear Dr. Horowitz:

I know some readers will think this is a joke, but I was told by my doctor (who specializes in sports medicine) that the pain I have been having in my heel is coming from something called a “pump bump.” My doctor thinks the pain is caused from my running an average of four miles a day. He thinks that if I take time off from running, the pain will go away. Continue Reading
