What is Causing My Chest Pain?

Dr. Allan Horowitz, published newspaper article, Richmond Hill Liberal, Copyright June 10, 1987

QUESTION: My doctor told me to write to you as he felt you might have an answer for my pain. For one year, ever since a waterskiing fall, I have experienced shortness of breath, pain when I try to breathe deeply, pain when I cough, or even when I sit slumped over my desk for a long time. The pain feels like it is coming from my heart but my doctor gave me a million tests and he tells me everything is alright. Continue Reading

Is My Back Problem Cured for Good?

Dr. Allan Horowitz, published newspaper article, Richmond Hill Liberal, Copyright 1985-1991

Question: Can back problems actually be cured by chiropractors or do they just get rid of the pain? I am now going to a chiropractor who relieved my pain the first day I was treated, however, he told me I should come back in three months to have my back checked. Continue Reading

Dr. Allan Horowitz, published newspaper article, Richmond Hill Liberal, Copyright March 11, 1987

Question: I have three children, ages eight to 14 years. Most of their friends go skiing on the weekends, but I have always been a little bit afraid to let my kids go. I’m always seeing someone walking around on crutches who was hurt in a skiing accident. My whole family reads your column and I told the kids if you say it’s a safe sport I will sign them up for lessons. What is your opinion? Continue Reading

Question:  I have just strained my knee ligaments playing hockey and I am going to the Bobby Orr clinic for therapy. The girl there is  applying ultrasound to my stretched ligaments. I asked her how the machine worked and she couldn’t really tell me. Do you have any knowledge about ultra sound, and what exactly  they are putting into my knee? Continue Reading

Dr. Allan Horowitz, published newspaper article, Richmond Hill Liberal, Copyright June 24, 1987

In this week’s column I would like to discuss some points which were raised in an interesting conversation I recently had with one of my patients. This lady has had various bouts of neck and back pain for many years. The only real relief she obtains is through chiropractic manipulation. Continue Reading

Good Equipment Helps Prevent Ski Injuries

Dr. Allan Horowitz, published newspaper article, Richmond Hill Liberal, Copyright March 25, 1987

Last week I answered a question from a lady who was wondering if skiing was a safe enough sport to allow her children to participate. I told her that the risk of injury alone was not enough reason to deprive her children of the joys of skiing. Continue Reading

Chiropractic Therapy May Help Asthmatics

Dr. Allan Horowitz, published newspaper article, Richmond Hill Liberal, Copyright 1985-1991

Question: My friend takes her daughter to a chiropractor every week for treatment of her asthma. She says the chiropractor has several other asthmatic patients and he claims to get good results with them. This lady’s daughter is amazed at the relief she is getting. Her attacks have been cut in frequency and severity. Are they both crazy or is a chiropractor a viable therapy for asthmatic patients? If it is, I think many more people should be made aware of this. Continue Reading

Can I Avoid Back Pain Problems?

Dr. Allan Horowitz, published newspaper article, Richmond Hill Liberal, Copyright 1985-1991

Question:  I recently read a newspaper article that claimed that 80 percent of us are going to suffer from back pain at some time in our lives. Is back pain hereditary or is it a result of how we live? I have never had a problem but I know many people who have been temporarily or permanently disabled from back pain. Is there anything I can do to ensure that I stay healthy or are my genes the most important factor? Continue Reading

A Professional Mover Knows how to Protect His Back

Dr. Allan Horowitz, published newspaper article, Richmond Hill Liberal, Copyright March 7, 1987

It’s time for another one of those common sense columns. You know the columns people read and say, “I knew that.” How to shovel snow. How to pick up your children. How to sit at work without getting a sore back. How to warm up before exercising. How to knit without hurting your shoulders, and so on. Continue Reading

A Combination of Factors can Cause Headaches

Dr. Allan Horowitz, published newspaper article, Richmond Hill Liberal, Copyright 1985-1991

DEAR READERS:

In last week’s column I discussed some of the causes of what is commonly termed ‘muscle contraction headaches’. Some call these tension headaches, stress headaches, migraine-like headaches, and some just know them as a bad headache which feels like a vice is squeezing their head. The main point I wanted to make in last week’s column was that the source of these headaches is usually multi-factorial. Continue Reading
