Dr. Allan Horowitz, published newspaper article, Richmond Hill Liberal, Copyright September 12, 1990

This week’s column will clear up some of the items on my desk which I have been meaning to bring to you over the past several months but have not been able to until now.

I always get into this housekeeping type of mood in September, when the kids are back in school, the bugs are gone, my patients return from their cottages with lots of new little injuries for me to investigate, the Argos are fighting with Hamilton and Winnipeg for first place, the Blue Jays are out of the picture for this year, and the Leafs are again talking about “their year.”

This week’s housekeeping chores consists of printing two letters which were not really asking me for advice, therefore I never put them into the column before.

My apologies to those who wrote that their letter was not printed sooner.

Dear Dr. Horowitz:

I know that it is quite a while ago that your article appeared regarding the “hand-on healer” by the name of Mr. Jerusalim.

Would you please at your convenience give me his address and phone number so that I may contact him.

This area of healing is fascinating. I’ve actually seen a bad headache cured with hands being held on either side of the patient’s head. I believe an electromagnetic current was involved.

Thank you for your prompt reply,

Sincerely, P.P.

Answer:

This reply unfortunately is not prompt (four months) and I’m afraid I cannot help you.

This Mr. Jerusalim was featured in several articles some time ago and at this time, I do not want to give out his number without his advance permission. If he writes to me c/o The Liberal, I will do so with his written permission.

Again I must state that all of the things Mr. Jerusalim discussed in his letters were theoretical at best, and certainly not scientific.

If he does write to me, I will give out his number as a service, but without my endorsement as a health care professional.

Dear Dr. Horowitz:

I read with great interest your columns on fibrositis, having been diagnosed a year ago as having this wonderful disease.

It is gratifying to know that it is now known and that other treatments besides sleeping pills are available.

All of the symptoms you described, I had, and I still have them.

I am in the middle-aged category and I was under a great deal of stress at home and work. I was away from work for eight months and returned on a part time basis for three months and I am now working full time again.

This is a very frightening disease. At the beginning I had chest pains, trouble breathing when talking or walking and I was unable to write. I was very tired all the time. These symptoms have decreased but rest is important, or you do feel worse.

            Thank you, B.D.G.
